Abstract

This study aimed to determine the physical fitness levels of male and female students in grades V-VI at SD Negeri Karangjati 03 and to analyze differences in fitness levels based on gender. The study was motivated by the lack of empirical data on students' physical fitness at the school, along with the high level of sedentary activity caused by gadget use, which tends to reduce physical activity among elementary school-aged children. This research used a quantitative descriptive-comparative method with a survey design employing test and measurement techniques. The population consisted of 30 students, comprising 15 male and 15 female students, all of whom served as the sample through a total sampling technique. The instrument used was the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI) for ages 10-12, covering a 40-meter sprint, bent-arm hang, 30-second sit-ups, vertical jump, and 600-meter run. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Levene homogeneity test, and the Mann-Whitney U difference test. Results showed that male students obtained an average TKJI score of 16.07, mostly in the moderate category (80.00%), while female students obtained an average score of 14.22, mostly in the moderate (61.11%) and poor (38.89%) categories. The Mann-Whitney U test produced a significance value of 0.007 (p<0.05), indicating a significant difference in fitness levels between male and female students, with males showing better fitness than females. The study recommends periodic fitness monitoring and the development of physical education programs tailored to the needs and characteristics of each gender group in elementary schools.
