Abstract

The ethical crisis in the modern era has become one of the consequences of the rapid development of science, technology, and globalization that is not accompanied by the strengthening of moral and spiritual values. Phenomena such as individualism, materialism, hedonism, the misuse of digital technology, the spread of misinformation, and the decline of social integrity indicate a moral degradation that requires not only a normative but also a transformative approach. This study aims to analyze the reconstruction of Imam al-Ghazali's Sufi values as the foundation of Islamic morality in addressing the ethical crisis of the modern era. This research employs a qualitative library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected from Imam al-Ghazali's primary works and relevant scholarly literature on Sufism, Islamic ethics, and contemporary moral issues, and were analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that Imam al-Ghazali's Sufi values, including sincerity (ikhlas), self-awareness before God (muraqabah), self-evaluation (muhasabah), asceticism (zuhud), trustworthiness (amanah), and humility (tawadhu'), remain highly relevant as the moral foundation of Islam in responding to contemporary ethical challenges. Furthermore, the concepts of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli can be reconstructed into an applicable model of moral transformation for contemporary life, particularly in the digital era. The novelty of this study lies in reconstructing Imam al-Ghazali's Sufism into an Islamic moral paradigm that integrates spiritual, ethical, and social responsibility dimensions as the foundation of digital ethics. Therefore, Imam al-Ghazali's Sufism is not only relevant as an Islamic intellectual legacy but also serves as a conceptual framework capable of addressing the ethical crisis of modern society.
